Tijuana Cartel play Hotel Gearin, Katoomba!
Over a decade in the making, Tijuana Cartel’s upcoming album ‘Live at Hotel Brunswick’
is due for release on 14 September 2018. The band have announced an extensive tour
from September to December 2018 presented by PS Music Group and featuring a string
of dates in Europe to commemorate the release.
Recorded live under the stars over two nights in March 2018 at the Hotel Brunswick in
Brunswick Heads NSW, the album features the greatest dance floor bangers from their
illustrious career spanning the clubs, pubs and festival circuits of Australia.
Their first ever live release, the project was inspired by Led Zeppelin who recorded a live
album over two nights at Madison Square Garden in February 1975.
We really wanted to capture the essence of our live performance, we switched ourselves
off to the idea that the night was being documented and just lost ourselves in the music.
We left everything on there. Even the odd mistake. Sheila Finke (percussion).
The recording is teeming with the infectious party vibes that characterise their live show.
The electronic tour-de-force of Tijuana Cartel never fails to ignite a dance floor and this
compilation of tunes captures what their live show is all about. Heavy bass and beats
underpin virtuosic instrumentation and exotic sounds reminiscent of the Middle East,
Morocco and Spain.
Our fans have been asking us for a live album for years, though we just never got around
to it. I think we were always obsessed with writing new material. So it wasn’t easy to look
back and find our favourite tracks. Paul George (guitar / vocals).
‘Live at Hotel Brunswick’ is also the soundtrack to a beautiful story of an enduring 25-
year friendship. Paul George and Carey O’Sullivan have been playing music together
since early high school. Back in the early days they even shared a number of part-time
jobs including a retirement home, a music store and even a short stint in pest control.
Finalists in two categories at the 2018 Gold Coast Music Awards, Tijuana Cartel have
built a firm reputation as one of Australia’s premier live acts. They’ve graced Australia’s
biggest stages: Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Peak
Festival and many more, with crowds of up to 15,000.
The hard working group have released 5 full-length albums: Frequent Flyers, They Come,
M1, 24-bit Guitar Orchestra and Psychedelicatessen; and 2 of their singles enjoyed high
rotation with Triple J Radio.
Tijuana Cartel are virtuoso flamenco guitarist and vocalist Paul George; multi-
instrumentalist and production extraordinaire Carey O’Sullivan; Jazz trained musician
Eamon Dilworth on trumpet and esteemed tribal percussionist Shiela Finke.
